One of the few people in our blogroll here on the site is Elizabet Pisani at Wisdom of Whores. Why did she end up there? Nothing less than for the reason of her amazing work for working with lifting the HIV problematics and also a lot of support for sex workers in actually lifting out the reasons why people work with it and that they are not really anything but regular people.
More to the point, today I found my way back onto her blog, as I do from time to time. This time via RSS. Dirty pictures? Apple spreads filth about gays, do read it, great article. But it lead me on. to rewatch her TEDtalk from 2010, “Sex, drugs and HIV — let’s get rational“.
I should, probably, wrap it up in words, but I don’t really feel like I can. It’s more like, I just want to share it, for you to watch. And do so with something more than a simple Tweet, which I did as well.
But simply, what you think is rational, might not be what’s rational. Or rather you don’t see the point of view that makes it rational, since most people actually make rational decisions, even drug addicts and whores! (This is not me saying anything bad about people addicted to drugs or selling sex)
In my own life my fear for getting HIV isn’t really that big. I have gotten tested. Even when I don’t use a condom my fear for HIV isn’t the highest fear I’ve got, I’m more “afraid” that I’ll get pregnant. And that usually doesn’t kick in till later anyways. Like when my period doesn’t appear. Oh and that has happened, stress is a friend of mine.
I really should work on eliminating that problem.
Anyhow I really feel that it’s on my horizon to buy her book as well! Thank you for being so great Elizabeth!
